House of Silence
Henuti drank the burial wine, folded her hands, and prepared to serve her princess for eternity. Now she is awake in a sealed tomb, the other attendants are silent, and no one has explained what she is supposed to do next. The presence moving through the dark has titles for every duty and very little patience for questions. Henuti has questions. She also knows every room he can disappear into; she furnished them herself. As their encounters become a game neither seems willing to end, Henuti discovers something no one prepared her for: wanting a future of her own. But the lamp is failing, the wine still troubles her senses, and the figure waiting in the dark may be the only company she has left.
